Experiential Branding and Ergonomic Design
Working in conjunction with HJ High Construction and CDH Architects, I conceptualized new design elements, translated architectural drawings and engineering plans into workable production files, and handled budgeting, vendor selection, and installation of all of the major interior branding and signage for the First Baptist Church of Orlando expansion- a multimillion dollar project spanning over 2 years.
Concept
In this phase of the project I regularly sat down with architects, engineers, and interior designers to interpret construction drawings and translate them into individual elements. Then I was responsible for scaling out and creating production-ready files, incorporating brand guidelines and colors into concepts, and forecasting budget, vendor selection, and installation schedule.
Design
Once the final budget and schedule are approved, the design process begins. In this phase, I used the finalized, scaled drawings from the concept phase and superimposed them into full-scale installation maps. Once fully approved by the client, these maps function as a guide for other on-site, active vendors (electricians, framers, dry-wallers, painters, etc.) to work around the parameters/placement of individual elements. This decreases the potential for any overlaps or reconstruction from conflicting installations in the future- greatly increasing efficiency, while reducing total timeline.
Production
After all the installation maps and final, scaled designs are approved, I convert all files for production… this is where the “heavy lifting” begins.
At this point, I maintain constant communication between my production team and the on-site construction team, architects, and interior designers to ensure quality control and adherence to schedules. I provide regular updates, color/material samples, and templates to the client to keep them in the loop as everything progresses.
Installation
Just as in the production stage, I monitor and maintain quality control and client communication throughout the entire installation process. The timeline of a large construction project (such as this one) is ever-evolving; inspections are earlier than expected, other essential vendors are working in the same area on a scheduled install date… there are a slew of things that can speed-up or pump the brakes on even the most well-thought-out schedules.
This is where I thrive. I love integrating all the working parts of a large experiential branding project, overcoming unforeseen obstacles, and watching a project come to fruition. I’m truly proud of this project, enjoyed working with the multiple teams involved, and am excited to see the final stage of this project complete in Fall, 2021!
