Tavistock Cup: Tournament Branding

About Tavistock Cup

For ten years, Tavistock Cup was considered one of the most intimate events and toughest tickets in professional sports due to its distinctive no-ropes format, world-class surroundings and rich traditions. What began as a friendly interclub match between crosstown clubs Isleworth and Lake Nona in Central Florida quickly evolved into golf’s ultimate global showdown to determine the World Golf and Country Club Champion.

This PGA TOUR-sanctioned event not only provided a decade of iconic golf and events but also generated more than $7 million for philanthropy, including various player charities as well as education, health and human services, youth development and community programs designed to grow the game of golf.

I was responsible for working with Tavistock Group’s internal marketing department and outside tournament sponsors to conceptualize, design, produce, and install all of the major/landmark signage and experiential branding for the Tavistock Cup Golf Tournament.

Concept

I collaborated with Tavistock Group’s internal marketing team as well as outside sponsors to set budget and conceptualize signage for all of the major venues included in the 2-day event. The “napkin drawing” you see is the result of our very first brainstorming session. Scroll down to see more about how that napkin drawing became the focal point of the Tavistock Cup.

Design

Once the conceptualization phase is complete, it’s time to create production-ready design files for anything from overhanging fabric “triangles” and sponsor displays, to dimensional timeclocks and pavilion signage. With over 30 different on-site venues and hundreds of sponsors, it was my responsibility to coordinate designs and branding consistency throughout all of the Tavistock Cup.

Production

The key to good design is being able to make the ideas on screen come to fruition, and match the final product/aesthetic. The tiniest details make all the difference in creating an all-encompassing experiential branding experience.

Never was this more important than in The Tavistock Cup- regarded as one of the most prestigious events in all of professional golf. I adapted and created custom tournament circle signage, faux stone finishings, luster fabrics, aluminum piping, aircraft cabling, and even drainage systems to create a consistent look and feel throughout the tournament grounds.

Installation

Working a grueling schedule that often required overnight strikes, breakdowns, and rebuilds, I managed 3 installation crews on rotating schedules throughout the multi-day Tavistock Cup. I was responsible for site access, logistics, staging, placement, and quality control for over 30 venues all while keeping constant communication with event planners, security, sponsors, and agents.
